Van Gogh Grill And Bar in Calgary

The service was horrible. Looked around for a table that wasn't dirty and couldn't find one. Asked if they could wipe the table and was told that it wasn't dirty and just old, but the table was sticky and did have crud on it. After sitting for 15 minutes the waiter finally asked if we wanted to order drinks. 20 min later we still didn't have drinks at our table. Some other customers were actually approaching the bar asking where their drinks were and were given some lame excuse about being to busy. There were maybe 3 other tables of people in the place. We waited another 5 minutes then just walked out. Years ago before the place changed hands it was fantastic and we used to go there weekly. This last experience was the death blow for this place and that is a shame.

Came in with family today had wings as well as some main course meals..was very busy but the server handled everything very well..we had a very nice experience and will be back! The food and service was excellent!!

The best bar I have ever been in Calgary. everything is great. food is delicious and service not bad. Will come back again soon

Worst service in a long time. Came by Valley Ridge after moving away 5 years ago. Walked in at 1:38pm. Place was pretty dead. Took 16 minutes for the waitress to walk 12 ft from behind the bar and take our order. Place looks really shabby too. Ripped up bench seats. What happened here since we moved out of this hood? It's now 2:00pm and we still haven't received our water!?! Wonder how the food will taste...Update: Left the restaurant at 2:05pm. Told server to cancel our order. Told her it was because of her service. We had not even received our water!!!!

My wife and I dropped in Thursday evening and ordered the souvlaki special (chicken) with Greek salad and tzatziki. Food was very good and the server (Noor) was excellent. Like other reviewers, we wondered why there were so few customers. The food and alcohol prices were reasonable and the portions were large.

This is a great little neighbourhood place. While we no longer live in the area we try to pop by when we can. Good food and good service.

So so food quality. Not worth what they charge. Service was ok, but we were the only customers at 1830 hrs on a Sunday.

This place should be a goldmine since there is zero competition anywhere near them. I’m never sure which is worse. The service or the food.

Went there few times. Pizzas are amazing.

Came for their new “wing night” and they were out of wings. Server was constantly complaining around the floor with how busy it was, even though there were maybe 5 tables. It is not a great feeling when you make guests feel uncomfortable by slurring under your breath. In my short hour stay, watched 6 tables come in, and leave right away.

Food was quite good. Service was fine. Maybe a little pricey for a casual place.

Cozy place with good food. I had the angelhair pasta and it was yummy. Love the pita that comes with the dish! Some of the furniture is showing its age with rips and stress, generally the place is well kept.

Nice bar with outdoor patio. However, I was disappointed that they only had 4 types of draft, and all were fairly similar. Prices and service were good, and they did have a fair selection of bottled beer. I didn't eat, so I can't comment on the food.

Slow in service . But the food is amazing

We always meet our friends and family here for food and drinks, never had bad experiences. Their pizza is the best in this area, and house lager is always fresh.

Just bad. This place is suffering from an identity crisis. You walk in and their is a empty dining area that is laid out awkwardly like it’s supose to be a “up scale” restaurant. Then at the back there is the lounge and bar area. The menu is all over the place, I couldn’t tell whether I was at a bar and grill or some greek take out place by trying to navigate the menu. Random page in the menu has souvlaki dishes. And the prices are a bit ridiculous. A 12” single topping pizza sets you back over $22, burger and fries start at $18. Food quality is below mediocre and portions are small considering the premium price. Only three beers on tap and the beer they serve as “keiths” is definitely not keiths. Seems like due to lack of customers, they are cutting corners to squeeze out whatever profit they can. The current owners are completely clueless how to run a restaurant and bar. I don’t see this place being around much longer.

Some friends recommended eating supper here. What an excellent choice. We had a fairly late dinner but there was only 1 other table. Warning llights went off but when our food arrived I couldn't believe how good my pasta meal was. Other trips to a restaurant I usually always brought my leftovers. There wasn't a bite left to do that with. It was the most flavourful meal I think I've ever had even with a wife who is the best cook ever. I have no affiliation with this restaurant. This would be my first choice of a referred restaurant to anyone.

The owner always swing by the table and ask if we are enjoying the meal. I love the Greek style chicken wings and their pizza is loaded! Great for friends night out or just fun dinner with my husband.

Awesome place, service is prompt and quick! Food quality is great! Servers are nice and friendly. But the best is there patio.

The Cajun Caesar salad was very good and quite large. It was very quiet when I was there. 2.30 on a Sat. However, the atmosphere is lacking. Lots of black and high ceiling industrial feel.

Glad I stopped in here today!! So happy with all the food, but my favorite was the calamari...it was cooked PERFECTLY! Delicious... Owner is a sweetheart, and the service was incredible.. My server was very attentive, personable and sweet, wonderful conversation.. great place all around, definitely recommend..

Waitress is very pleasant. Decent food, especially their pizza and cafe ribs. Me and my wife ware there last time, we both enjoyed their chicken tacos.

The firstvthing you notice about this place is that the ambiance is nonexistent. It's really dark, dingy, completely uninviting. The beer was cheap but all the tables around us were dirty so I was afraid to try any of the food. The music was so quiet that you couldn't hear it, just the one other table talking in hushed tones. There were movies with no sound playing on teeny tiny tvs, not sure how or why you would want to watch a silent movie in a pub. The server had absolutely no personality and didn't seem to want us there. At 8:45 she started closing up around us, we were the only ones there. So we quickly finished our beer and left. I never did see her wipe any of the dirty tables. I'm surprised this place is still open, I couldn't find anything positive to say other than cheap beer.

Wonderful dinner for six for an anniversary party. Everyone had something different and all the meals were wonderful. We will definitely be back!!

A horrific dump that attempted to circumvent public gathering restrictions during a pandemic.

New owners are friendly. Some of the old regular staff are stll there. Food is much the same although they added Asian dumpling, noodles and rice, these are by far the best in calgary we order every weekend :)

Greedy people

So much potential. Find an identity. Ambience is so important Sitting at the bar with music in the background and tvs making a small noise. Very uncomfortable. No "welcome" feeling The servers were fine. No issues there.

Tried to support the local entrepreneurs by visiting the Van Gogh Restaurant in Valley Ridge. Four meals all were a disaster 1) steak was rancid and could not be consumed 2) French fries were raw, 3) chicken was raw and could not be consumed. 4) Vegetables were cold. When presenting issues to the waitress all she could respond with was that she sells a lot of steak. So, no more Mr. Nice Guy, we will just stay away. Note the place was about empty for dinner last night… no wonder here!

Look at your demographic, play their music at the right volume, we come to eat and talk and drink, not dance. Let us hear each other and be neighbourly. Great Fish and chips, the long wait was worth it.

The atmosphere was casual and comfortable with a very friendly fly staff ensuring all our needs were met. The lasagna came hot and I was given the option of substituting the garlic bread for pita ($1.50 extra). Everyday has a different drink and food special. Today was the bbq pork ribs with the choice of baked potatoes or fries. Recommend this place for a nice dinner

Food wasn't bad, the service was just so slow. We had a table of 6 and there was only one other table of 2 in the restaurant and it took at least an hour to get our food out.

Gone here for over 12 years. Food quality now varies quite a bit. Be careful when ordering Pizza. It can have too much cheese an way too much sauce. Just not up to the quality it used to be. Note. Nov 2017 Been back a few times and food quality has improved quite a bit.
